ABSTRAKT Studio Architecture was founded by Voytek Gorczynski in 2000, following a distinguished fifteen-year tenure as Senior Designer and Senior Associate with several leading Toronto architectural practices.

Initially conceived as a platform for exploration and participation in international design competitions, the Studio—between 2000 and 2009—served as a forum for research, experimentation, and the pursuit of architectural ideas of personal and cultural significance. In 2009, it evolved into a full-time, fully established architectural practice.

The Studio’s ethos is grounded in collaboration and the pursuit of design excellence. Its work reflects the founder’s enduring commitment to architecture as both an art form and an investigative process—one that aspires to create memorable spaces and profound spatial experiences. Central to the Studio’s philosophy is the belief that every architectural intervention must engage in a meaningful dialogue with its physical, cultural, and metaphysical context to attain its authentic expression.

Voytek Gorczynski’s professional background encompasses an extensive portfolio of local and international projects, many of which have been recognized in open and invited design competitions. His achievements include a Special Prize in the International Competition for the Nara Theatre Complex in Japan, Second Place for the Palazzo Mantegazza Luxury Condominium in Lugano, Switzerland, and First Place in the invited competition for the Renovation of 100 University Avenue Office Building in Toronto. As Principal Designer, he contributed to the winning schemes for the Jingtai Logistic Masterplan in Beijing, China, and The Windsor Casino in Windsor, Ontario.

In 2002, Gorczynski served as Project Architect and Principal Designer for the New Canadian Chancery in Warsaw, Poland—an undertaking that garnered the Mayor of Warsaw Award and a Special Citation from the Association of Polish Architects. The project was also named “Best Building of the Year” by Polish Business News Magazine in its national survey of architectural excellence.

More recently, he led the winning team in the invited international competition for the Ozdilek Retail Complex in Istanbul, Turkey. In 2014, ABSTRAKT Studio Architecture secured First Prize in the closed national design competition for the National Memorial to the Victims of Communism, to be located in Canada’s Capital.

The Studio maintains a strong commitment to sustainable design, integrating the core principles of environmental stewardship and performance into every project. The LEED® rating system and its suite of standards have informed several of the Studio’s recent works. ABSTRAKT Studio Architecture remains dedicated to crafting architecture that reflects the aspirations of its clients while fulfilling the functional, contextual, and experiential requirements of its users.
